Roadrunner Driving School
Obtaining Learner’s Permit (between ages 15 ½ - 17 ½)
1) Attend Driver’s Education class
a. Student must be at least 15 to attend but wait until 15 ½ to obtain permit
b. Classes are offered year round (see schedule) for $135
c. Payment required in advance to confirm/hold student spot
d. 100% attendance required in order to receive completion certificate
e. On-line courses, approved by DMV and Driving School Association of CA, available for $110.
2) Upon Completion of Driver Education class
a. Go to DMV to take written test and MUST BRING:
b. ORIGINAL or CERTIFIED copy of Birth Certificate &
c. Social Security number &
d. Completion Certificate of Driver Education (Blue Slip) &
e. Pre-enrollment for Behind-the-Wheel (White Slip) &
f. DMV Application ( DL-44) signed by both parents & $31.00
3) Passing the written test
a. DMV will issue a Provisionsl Driver’s Permit valid for one year
b. Minimum 6-month waiting period if student between ages 15 ½ - 17 ½ yrs.)
c. Permit not valid until student begins Behind-the-Wheel training.
Behind-the-Wheel Instruction
1) 6 hrs. Behind-the-Wheel
a. 3 days; 2 hrs. each day include pick-ups at Live Oak, Sobrato, Central, office (with drop at office )
b. Home pick-ups in
c. Hollister/San Juan /
d. Student MUST possess a VALID permit at all times during driver training
e. DMV also requires 50 hrs. with parent/guardian (10 hrs. at night)
2) BTW Training Routes
a. Day 1: Morgan Hill/San Martin /
b. Day 2:
c. Day 3: Freeway driving, merging, lane changes, parallel parking and backing up.
d. Review DMV drive test requirements with special attention to any areas in need.
e. Upon completion Instructor will issue a Certificate of Completion (Gold Slip) and student evaluation.
